Chihuly at Cheekwood

Information used from the Cheekwood web site:

Chihuly at Cheekwood features stunning, hand-blown glass sculptures on display throughout the botanical garden at Cheekwood, in various ponds and within the Museum of Art and Frist Learning Center.

About Dale Chihuly
Dale Chihuly is most frequently lauded for revolutionizing the studio glass movement by expanding its original premise of the solitary artist working in a studio environment to encompass the notion of collaborative teams and a division of labor within the creative process. However, Chihuly’s contribution extends well beyond the boundaries both of this movement and even the field of glass: his achievements have influenced contemporary art in general. Chihuly’s practice of using teams has led to the development of complex, multipart sculptures of dramatic beauty that place him in the leadership role of moving blown glass out of the confines of the small, precious object and into the realm of large-scale contemporary sculpture.

Chihuly’s spectacular creations are found in more than 200 museums worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, London’s Victoria and Albert Museum and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Garden exhibitions of his work have been mounted at the New York Botanical Garden, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Atlanta Botanical Garden and the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew.  For more information about Dale Chihuly and his art, please visit

He really is a master of color and form, isn’t he? I’ve never seen his work in person but I hope to one day!

  2. I love the forms in this. Can I just say that I’m highly annoyed that I’ve been to Nashville twice in the last five weeks, gotten all excited about snapping some photos there and then been plagued by rain? Rats.

  3. What a beautiful artwork!

Hi Julie. Well…just come on down!!! The exhibit will be in place all summer. 🙂

The day I was there it was fun to see and hear the response of the children who were visiting. They were enjoying the exhibit as much as the adults. I hope to take my grandchildren sometime soon.

Stay tuned…more Chihuly images are coming!!! 🙂

You really DO need to come down for this exhibit. It is stunning. Adds a whole new dimension to the Cheekwood landscape. Maybe it won’t rain the day you visit! 😉
