Love is…

Kay Smart at BeBe’s Artisan Gallery asked me to come up with an image for a note card that could be used for an anniversary card. This image will become my newest note card.

First let me talk about how the image was shot.

I had tried shooting this on a couple of occasions. First with the natural light coming in from the guest bedroom window and then with the natural light coming in from the great room window. If you remember, I don’t have any special lighting equipment and rely on natural light for my images.

Yesterday afternoon, while working in my office, I noticed the beautiful light coming from the skylight. Ah ha! Let’s give it another try.

Bingo! The shadow created the effect I was seeking. So, last night I ordered photo prints and will soon turn this design into note cards.

I use http://www.photographers.edge.com for all of my note cards. This is another supplier that provides, in my opinion, a quality product. I have explored other means for producing note cards but so far I am most pleased with the final product when using Photographers Edge.

Oh no! I’ve posted twice in one day and my original goal was to post once a week. What is happening here? :)

Gallery Shelves

July 16, 2008 · 4 Comments

In an earlier post I hinted that I had a goal of installing gallery shelves to display some of my images. Yesterday I decided to take ACTION! Why wait any longer, I asked myself!

With my 40% coupon in hand, I went to Michael’s and purchased two 4′ gallery shelves. The package said they were “self leveling.” Today we will remove an old faded “store bought” print; hang the new shelves; and display some of my work. Hopefully all will go smoothly!

Just a week or so ago I received a large order of prints from the lab. They WERE going to BeBe’s Gallery to be sold, but I think think I’ll hang on to them!

And, just a week or so ago I purchased quite a few simple back gallery frames from Hobby Lobby during a half price sale. So, I’m good to go with this project!

I’m going to group a series of five black and white images, all nature prints. Let me share a couple of the images with you.

The series was shot during a hike in an extremely dense wooded area. So dense that it was challenging to see anything except the next couple of steps on the path…..and the wonderful trees and leaves.

The detail in this image just “pops” in the print. I am so pleased. A good friend of mine described this image as “mysterious.”

My nature grouping on the shelves will also include several leaf prints. Here is one as an example.

I was pleased with how the image allowed the viewer to see the prominent veins of the leaf and almost “feel” the texture of the leaf.

Now you know what I’ll be doing today.
